Next to Normal authors Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey are on Team Downey! The Next to Normal Tony winners have just sold a pitch to Warner Bros. for an original film musical starring Robert Downey Jr. that the Hollywood star would produce under his own Team Downey production company.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plot centers are around two Broadway songwriters who find themselves creatively and financially bankrupt after their big musical flops. The duo winds up teaching at a theater camp they attended as kids and come up with a plan for a big Broadway comeback.
Downey attended the Stagedoor Manor theater camp as a teenager and bit at Kitt and Yorkey's pitch. Although he's not best known for his musical talents, he starred in the short-lived off-Broadway musical American Passion in 1983, sang on an episode of Ally McBeal and released a solo album, The Futurist, in 2004.
